Stars of David is shining brightly at off-Broadway’s DR2 Theatre, where the show begins performances November 13. Featuring the stories of Tony-winning playwright Tony Kushner, Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and legendary funnylady Joan Rivers, the production is directed by Gordon Greenberg and conceived by Aaron Harnick and Abigail Pogrebin. Stars of David is set to play a limited engagement through December 15.
The new concert presentations stars Janet Metz, Alan Schmuckler, Aaron Serotsky and Donna Vivino. Based on the bestselling book Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk About Being Jewish by Pogrebin, the play celebrates other Jewish personalities including Andy Cohen, Gloria Steinem, Kenneth Cole, Fran Drescher, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Mike Wallace and Norman Lear.
The stars’ stories have been adapted into amusing and often moving songs by award-winning writers including Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line), Marilyn and Alan Bergman (Yentl), Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof), Duncak Sheik and Steven Sater (Spring Awakening), Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, Or Change), Richard Maltby and David Shire (Closer Than Ever), Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and Michael Friedman (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson).
